Patient Type Codes Window

The Patient Type Codes window allows you to manage the patient type codes which are used to identify special groups of patients and control access to them.

Patient type codes are a way to distinguish patient groups in axiUm and control how users interact with each patient type.

Examples:

  • Typodont / simulation patients: Simulation patients can be configured in axiUm to allow students to learn and practice in axiUm, and can be controlled to prevent charges from being added to the patient's record and showing on the ledger.
  • Research patients / special projects: If performing a research project with patients that should only be accessed by a small group of users, a patient type can be used to ensure that only the appropriate users can work with these patients.

Field Description
Code

A text field that indicates the code that identifies the patient type.
Inactive A checkbox that, when selected, indicates the field is inactive and not in use.
Description

A text field that describes the patient type.
Start checks (when required)

A checkbox that, when selected, indicates the patient type requires a start check.

Note: This field is used in conjunction with the following settings to determine if a start check is required:

  • Maintenance > Office > Users > Provider tab > Requires Start Check ___ minutes before appt checkbox
  • Maintenance > Scheduler > Clinics > Start Checks for Provider drop-down list
Enable Recall Type limit to one active recall

A checkbox that, when selected, indicates the that recalls for this patient type should be limited to one.

Note: This field is used when a Recall Type Code has Limit to one active recall set to Yes, for enabled Patient Types.

Task Procedure
Add Patient Type Codes
  1. Click the Clear Data () icon.
  2. Complete the fields as necessary and click the Add a new Record () icon.
Set Patient Type Access
  1. Select a listed entry and click the Level Access () icon to display the Patient Type Access window.
  2. Make any necessary changes and click the Modify Record () icon.
Edit Patient Type Codes
  1. Select a listed entry.
  2. Make any necessary changes and click the Modify Record () icon.

    Note: Once a code is created, the Code field cannot be modified.
Delete Patient Type Codes
  1. Select a listed entry and click the Delete Record () icon.
  2. When prompted, click Yes to confirm the deletion.
Preview/Print Report
  1. (Optional) To preview the Patient Type Codes report, click the Preview Report () icon.
  2. To print the Patient Type Codes report, click the Print Report () icon.

    3. Note: The Patient Type Codes report uses the pattype.rpt file.

Patient Type Access Window

[Accessed from Maintenance > Patient > Patient Type Codes > Level Access () icon]

The Patient Type Access window allows you to control access to patient type codes and specify the actions can be performed based on user levels. It displays when you open the Patient Type Codes window, select a listed patient type and click the Level Access () icon.

Field Description
Type / Level

Read-only fields that indicate the selected patient type code.
Searchable in Patients

A checkbox that, when selected, indicates that users in this level can access patients of this type from the Patients module.
Add Treatments

A checkbox that, when selected, indicates that users in this level can add treatments to patients of this type.

Note: This checkbox is only enabled if Searchable in Patients is selected.

Auto Clear Chart

A checkbox that, when selected, indicates that axiUm will clear the EHR odontogram after users in this level finish charting and close the EHR.

Tip: This prevents odontogram entries from being saved and is helpful for typodont patient types.

Note: This checkbox is only enabled if Searchable in Patients and Add Treatments is selected.

Add Fees

A checkbox that, when selected, indicates that users in this level can add charges to patients of this type.

Note: This checkbox is only enabled if Searchable in Patients is selected.

Info. Mgr Reports A checkbox that, when selected, indicates that users in this level can run Info Manager reports for this patient type.
Task Procedure
Configure Patient Type Access

  1. Select one or more user levels that should have the same access.

  2. Set the access fields as necessary and click the Modify Record () icon.

  3. Repeat the steps for all necessary user levels.
