Periodontal Conditions Window

The Periodontal Conditions window allows you to manage the perio conditions for use by your institution.

Periodontal Conditions - About

You can configure which perio conditions are used at your institution.

Note: Not all providers or departments need to chart the same conditions.

axiUm has seven hard-coded perio condition types:

Gingival Margin
Pocket Depth
Attachment
Bleeding
Suppuration
Calculus
Overhangs

Tip: To set up a perio condition that does not fit into one of these categories, you can use the condition type of Other Condition.

Once a condition is created you must specify the types of values that are used to chart each condition and list the acceptable values that can be entered and how they are entered on the keyboard.

Example: A condition can be set up to allow numeric values, and then restricted to only allow values from -5 to 5.

A condition can be charted once per tooth, or multiple times per tooth (up to 6 times; 3 on each side). It may be charted if a tooth is missing or can be skipped when a tooth is not present.

Periodontal Conditions - Field Definitions

Field	Description
Condition	A text field that indicates the perio condition.
Inactive	A check box that, when selected, indicates the field is inactive and not in use.
Description	A text field that indicates the description of the perio condition.
Short Description	A text field that indicates the short name of the perio condition.
Condition Type	A drop-down list that includes the possible perio condition types: Other Condition Gingival Margin Pocket Depth Attachment Bleeding Suppuration Calculus Overhangs Note: Pocket Depth, Attachment, and Gingival Margin can each be associated to only one perio condition.
Value Type	A drop-down list that includes the types of values recorded for the perio condition: Numeric Alphanumeric Yes/No Examples: Pocket depths are generally Numeric; overhangs are generally Yes/No.
Values...	A button that displays the Periodontal Condition Values window and allows you to view and manage values for charting the condition. Note: The button is disabled until the condition has been added.
Chart	A drop-down list that indicates how the condition is charted: Both Sides Per Tooth
Sites...	A button that displays the Sites for Condition window and allows you to view and manage where the condition is charted on each tooth. Note: The button is disabled until the condition has been added, and is only enabled if the Chart* field is set to Both Sides.*
Chart on Missing Teeth	A check box that, when selected, indicates the condition is charted regardless of the presence of a tooth. When not selected, the condition is not charted on sites without teeth present.
Color	A color bar that indicates the color to display in the condition on the perio chart.
Display as	A drop-down list that indicates how the condition displayed on the chart: Line Text Dot Bar *Notes:* Only FGM, Pocket Depth, and Attachment* conditions set to Line display graphically in the Perio window. Other conditions set to Line display graphically in the full mouth view.* Only Bleeding* and Suppuration conditions set to Text display on the Perio window.* Only one text condition displays per section. Up to two dot conditions display per section. Tip: Pocket conditions are generally set to Bar, and FGM* and Attachment conditions set to Line.*
Show Deleted	A check box that, when selected, will display any deleted records in this list.

Periodontal Conditions - Tasks

Task	Procedure
Add Perio Conditions	Click the Clear Data () icon. Complete the fields as necessary and click the Add a new Record () icon.
Manage Perio Condition Values	Select a listed entry. Click the Values... button to display the Periodontal Condition Values window. Make any necessary changes and close the window. Note: This button is only enabled after the condition has been created.
Manage Perio Condition Sites	Select a listed entry. Click the Sites... button to display the Sites for Condition window. Make changes as necessary. Note: This button is only enabled after the condition has been created, and when the Chart field is set to Both Sides.
Edit Perio Conditions	Select a listed entry. Make any necessary changes and click the Modify Record () icon.
Delete Perio Conditions	Select a listed entry and click the Delete Record () icon. When prompted, click Yes to confirm the deletion.
Preview/Print Perio Conditions Report	(Optional) To preview the Perio Conditions report, click the Preview Report () icon. To print the Perio Conditions report, click the Print Report () icon. Note: The Perio Conditions report uses the PerCond.rpt file.

Periodontal Condition Values Window

(Maintenance > Perio> Perio Conditions)

The Periodontal Condition Values window allows you to specify the types and ranges of acceptable values for a perio condition. You can also indicate shortcut keys to make charting faster. It displays when you open the Periodontal Conditions window, select a listed condition and click the Values... button.

Periodontal Condition Values - Field Definitions

Field	Description
Perio	A disabled field that indicates the selected condition.
Value	A text field that indicates the alphanumeric value (up to two characters) for this perio condition.
Graphical Value	A text field that indicates the numeric value for the condition and is used to calculate the graphical representation of the condition. Note: Conditions set to Yes/No only accept 1.00 and 0.00 values.
Alert Value	A check box that, when selected, indicates that this value is out of normal range and triggers a perio alert on the odontogram in the EHR. Note:The alert displays as a red 'P'
Description	A text field that identifies what the perio condition value indicates. Examples (Mobility): Value = 1; Description = Class I < 1mm Value = 2; Description = Class II > 1mm Value = 3; Description = Class III Depressible
Keyboard	A text field that indicates the alphanumeric keyboard input for the perio condition value. A drop-down list that indicates whether the keyboard entry also requires the Alt or Ctrl key. Examples: Ctrl+3 to enter a value of -3mm 1 to enter a value of 1mm
Jump Key	A check box that, when selected, indicates that this condition can be charted while another condition is being charted. If selected, when a condition’s jump value is entered, the cursor moves to chart the associated condition (at the same charting position), then moves back to the condition that was previously being charted. Note: Jump keys must be unique across all conditions and the Keyboard field must be an alpha character. Example: Bleeding can be set up as a jump key with the keyboard entry as B. While entering pocket depths, if a site bleeds, you can enter a B to chart the bleeding condition automatically without having to move the cursor manually to the condition/site on the chart.

Periodontal Condition Values - Tasks

Task	Procedure
Add Condition Values	Click the Clear Data () icon. Complete the fields as necessary and click the Add a new Record () icon.
Edit Condition Values	Select a listed entry. Make any necessary changes and click the Modify Record () icon. Note: Once a condition value is created, the Value field cannot be modified.
Delete Condition Values	Select a listed entry and click the Delete Record () icon. When prompted, click Yes to confirm the deletion.

Sites for Condition Window

(Maintenance > Perio > Perio Conditions)

If a perio condition is configured to be charted on both sides of the tooth (Chart = Both Sides), you can manage how many times the condition can be charted per tooth in the Sites for Condition window. It displays when you open the Periodontal Conditions window, select a listed condition and click the Sites... button.

Each tooth can have up to six values entered; three on the facial side and three on the lingual side and may vary based on the types of teeth being charted.

Sites for Condition - Field Definitions

Field	Description
Condition / Description	Disabled fields that indicate the current condition.
Arch	A drop-down list that indicates which arch the sites apply to in the Sites to Chart section: Maxillary Mandibular Important: You must select sites for both arches.
Sites to Chart	Check boxes that, when selected, indicate site(s) which must be charted for the selected perio condition/arch combination.
Set...	A button that selects all check boxes in the Sites to Chart area for the selected Arch.
Clear...	A button that deselects all check boxes in the Sites to Chart area for the selected Arch.

Sites for Condition - Tasks

Task	Procedure
Specify Sites to Chart for Arch	Select the appropriateArch from the drop-down list and review the current settings. Select and deselect check boxes as necessary. Tip: Click Set...* to select all check boxes for the currently selected arch. Click Clear... to deselect all the sites for the currently selected arch.* Click Save... to save the settings for selected arch.
