Provider Type Codes Window

Provider type codes are used to differentiate between the different types of people who perform dental procedures on patients. Provider type codes must be entered for every provider type that performs dental procedures in the clinic.

Tip: It is a good idea to differentiate between dental students and hygiene students for reporting purposes.

The Provider Type Codes window allows you to create and manage the different types of providers in your institution.

Field Description
Code

A text field that indicates the short code that identifies the provider type.
Description

A text field that describes the provider type.
Type

A drop-down list that indicates the type of record:

  • Doctor (bills under self): This provider type uses an individual license number for claims, billing as themselves, and are displayed in the Billing Doctors & Fee Schedules List window.

  • Treating Provider (bills under clinic): This type of provider uses an institution’s license number for claim billing.

  • Fee Guide: This type of record is a billing ID type only and are displayed in the Billing Doctors & Fee Schedules List window.
Subtype

A drop-down list that indicates the subtype of record:

  • Student

  • Dentist

  • Hygienist

  • CDA

  • Other

Note: This field is only enabled if the Type field is set to Treating Provider.
Can perform hygiene on

Two check boxes that, when selected, indicate that the type of work the CDA can perform:

  • Children: CDAs can perform work on children.

  • Low Perio Risk Adults (Enhanced): CDAs can perform treatment on adults with low perio risk.

Note: These fields are only enabled if Subtype is set to CDA.
Patient Need Requests Limited A check box that, when selected, indicates that providers of this type are limited in the number of requests that they can have at one time.
Task Procedure
Add Provider Type Codes
  1. Click the Clear Data () icon.
  2. Complete the fields as necessary and click the Add a new Record () icon.
Define Accessible Procedures
  1. Select a listed entry and click the Accessible Procedures () icon to display the Accessible Procedures window.
  2. Add and remove procedures from the provider type as necessary and close the window.

Edit Provider Type Codes

  1. Select a listed entry.
  2. Make any necessary changes and click the Modify Record () icon.
Delete Provider Type Codes
  1. Select a listed entry and click the Delete Record () icon.
  2. When prompted, click Yes to confirm the deletion.
Preview/Print Report
  1. (Optional) To preview the Provider Type Codes report, click the Preview Report () icon.
  2. To print the Provider Type Codes report, click the Print Report () icon.

    3. Note: The Provider Type Codes report uses the prodtype.rpt file.

Accessible Procedures Window

(Maintenance > Office > Provider Type Codes)

The Accessible Procedures window allows you to specify the procedures that the selected provider type are able to perform. It displays when you open the Provider Type Codes window, select a listed provider type and click the Accessible Procedures () icon.

Task Procedure
Add Procedures
  1. Select one or more procedures from the Inaccessible Procedures (searched for) list.
  2. Click the > button to move the user(s) to the Accessible Procedures list.
Remove Procedures
  1. Select one or more users from the Accessible Procedures list.
  2. Click the < button to move the user(s) to the Inaccessible Procedures (searched for) list.
