Grading Schemes Window

A grading scheme is an answer list that can be associated with question codes on grading forms. It may contain a predefined range of numeric or alphabetic answers, permit the user to enter free text answers within a value range, or be configured with a specific set of options that display from a drop-down list when users complete the evaluation.

The Grading Schemes window allows you to manage the answer schemes for evaluations at your institution.

Field Description
Scheme

A text field that indicates the unique name for the scheme.
Type

A drop-down list that indicates the type of scheme:

  • Numeric
  • Letter

Validate Using Table

A check box that, when selected, indicates that the scheme will use a list of predefined answers that will appear as a drop down list when users answer the question.

Note: When selected, you must specify the list of answers in the Grading Scheme Items window.

Minimum

A text field that indicates the minimum value allowed for the scheme.

Example: 10

Note: This field is only enabled if the Type field is set to Numeric.

Maximum

A text field that indicates the maximum value allowed for the scheme.

Example: 100

Note: This field is only enabled if the Type field is set to Numeric.

Increment

A text field that indicates the increment used for the scheme.

Example: If using 10 and 100 as the minimum and maximum values, and you set the increment to 5, users can enter 5, 10, 15, 20, etc.

Note: This field is only enabled if the Type field is set to Numeric.

Task Procedure
Add Grading Schemes
  1. Click the Clear Data () icon.
  2. Complete the fields as necessary and click the Add a new Record () icon.
Edit Grading Schemes
  1. Select a listed entry.
  2. Make any necessary changes and click the Modify Record () icon.

    3. Note: Once a code is created, the Code field cannot be modified.
Manage Grading Scheme Items
  1. Select a listed entry and click the Grading Scheme Items () icon to display the Grading Scheme Items window.
  2. Make changes as necessary and close the window.

    3. Tip: When an entry is selected, the list of grading scheme items displays in the lower list.
Delete Grading Schemes
  1. Select a listed entry and click the Delete Record () icon.
  2. When prompted, click Yes to confirm the deletion.
Preview/Print Report
  1. (Optional) To preview the Grading Schemes report, click the Preview Report () icon.
  2. To print the Grading Schemes report, click the Print Report () icon.

    3. Note: The Grading Schemes report uses the grd_schm.rpt file.

Grading Scheme Items Window

(Maintenance > Evaluations > Grading Schemes)

The Grading Scheme Items window allows you to specify the list of available answers when the Validate Using Table check box is selected in the Grading Schemes window. It displays when you open the Grading Schemes window, select a listed scheme and click the Grading Scheme Items () icon.

Field Description
Scheme

A disabled field that indicates the selected scheme.
Grade

A text field that indicates the character that can be used as an answer.

Note: The Type field specified in the Grading Scheme window is enforced and restricts entry to either letters or numbers.

Description

A text field that describes the grade.

Examples: If the grade is 1, you can enter Not Helpful. If the grade is 4, you can enter Very Helpful.

Requires grade specific comment A check box that, when selected, indicates that when this answer is used, a comment is required to be entered on the grading line.
Requires general comment A check box that, when selected, indicates that when this answer is used, a general comment is required on the grading form.
Task Procedure
Add Grading Scheme Items
  1. Click the Clear Data () icon.
  2. Complete the fields as necessary and click the Add a new Record () icon.
Edit Grading Scheme Items
  1. Select a listed entry.
  2. Make any necessary changes and click the Modify Record () icon.
Delete Grading Scheme Items
  1. Select a listed entry and click the Delete Record () icon.
  2. When prompted, click Yes to confirm the deletion.
Reorder Grading Scheme Items
  1. Select a listed entry.
  2. Click the Up and Down buttons to move the selected entry within the list.
